Jennifer and Jason | Governor Hotel Portland Oregon

Nestled in the rolling countryside of Hillsboro is a small country church that’s been a part of the landscape since 1899. Helvetia Community Church is where Jennifer and Jason were married on July 28th.

It was a beautiful day for a wedding in the country. The church was filled to capacity and as the ceremony time drew closer, it was obvious that there were more guests than seats. A testiment to the love that friends and family have for them.

Jason is a musician. The background for the rings is a song that he wrote for Jennifer on their wedding day.

This is an amazing capture by my assistant Kristen. Much to her credit, she has been pushing herself to see beautiful natural light and it shows. This is one of my favorite images from the day. Kristen has a creative eye and is dedicated to learning. She keeps me on my toes! I’ve decided to post one of her images each week from our weddings together. Expect great things from her!

The wedding started late, which is very common. Once everyone was crammed into the standing room only church, the wedding started. You could cut the tension and excitement with a knife. Jack walked his daughter down the aisle and the minister started the ceremony by asking “Who gives this woman to be married?” and Jack replied “Her father and I”. The whole church erupted into laughter and the tension was lifted and everyone had smiles for the rest of the cereomony.

Their wedding reception was at the Governor Hotel’s Heritage Ballroom, one of my favorite places to shoot. Here are a couple of stolen moments at the Governor Hotel.

Jennifer and Jason share a deep devotion based on their faith. After the ceremony, while they were signing the marriage license and waiting for their guests to file out of the church, I jokingly opened the oversized Bible laying on the pulpit and placed my finger on the page. Jason and I both agreed that the scripture was perfect…“They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness and the little hills rejoice on every side!

Best wishes to Jennifer and Jason and your families. Your wedding day was truly a celebration and there was much rejoicing. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your wedding day story!

Fantastic photos, particularly the shot of the bride by Kristen! If you ever go to Helvetia, you have to hit the Helvetia Tavern. They have the best burgers I’ve tasted this side of the Mississippi!

The corridor shot @ the Governor’s is a classic!

Randy is our #1 referral! Out of all the vendors we had for our wedding, he has been the best! Not only is the quality of his work beyond comparison (I would highly recommend if you’re looking for a wedding photographer that you compare his portfolio to anyone elses, and see what I mean!), but he is amazing to work with. He bends over backwards to produce beautiful work that refects you and the story your special day tells (whatever it may be)! And he doesn’t just take your picture, download it, and post it for you to view and purchase (like MANY MANY photographers do these days…if they tell you they’ll have your picures up and ready to view and purchase within a few days of your wedding, to me, that screams a lack of consideration to the quality of work you’re acutally getting). He goes through each one, and does something magical. His pictures even look like they move, look at the depth!

He also has no catch! He is affordable (an quite honestly, less expensive than most), and the transaction process is easy and straightforward. Choosing your package and what you want isn’t a puzzle either! If you are a bride, you know how important this is!

I have many stories of how Randy has bailed us out, or bent over backwards to work with us! From taking us on late as client after having to fire another photographer, to having extra meetings with us to ensure the day went smoothly, to not freaking out when many of our wedding day photo opportunities weren’t feasible because our schedule got thrown off (long story) and still finding beautiful moments (like the kiss picture) among the craziness! Oh, and another thing, our engagement session was 2 hours long! He works with you, not a time constraint (most photographers will have you pay extra if your engagement session is more than a half hour).

Photography was the most important thing for me (besides getting married) for the wedding. I have researched so many photographers, went through one bad one, and finally found Randy, and am so confident when I say he is THE best! He doesn’t advertise much, he doesn’t go to the bridal shows (I don’t think), and works mainly off of word of mouth. So, if you are considering hiring him, have any questions about working with him, or want a recommendation (and honesty about other local photographers I have researched) than please don’t hesitate to contact me!
